Today, we are going to talk about a magic cleansing drink that I’m sure we are all the mood for after the holiday weekend.

Eating a lot, celebrating holidays, eating out at restaurants, it’s part of life.

Right? 

It’s food reality.  

It’s the rhythm of our lives. 

It’s also a reason most of us are in the spot we are in metabolically… our metabolisms literally can’t handle the rhythm and pace of our current eating lives and the damage builds, layer upon layer, year upon year, until suddenly, just looking at cake makes you gain five pounds.

You feel this in your body too.  You feel the sluggishness, the lack of energy and zip.  You may even feel the heartburn, the swelling in your hands from all the sugar and salt, feel the brain fog.

This is like what a metabolic hangover feels like.  And some of us have been living in this metabolic hangover for decades.  Jumping from one diet to another but never fixing the problem and always returning to the damaged metabolism that we were trying to fix in the first place, except now we have a fresh layer of damage to overcome from our last diet.

Here’s the thing: your metabolism runs or doesn’t run on what you eat and when you eat it.  

It’s actually quite simple; put the right stuff in at the right times, most of the time and your metabolism purrs like a kitten. It’s not about the calories, eating less or exercising more, it’s about controlling your metabolism through eating smart.

So today I’m going to share with you how you can add one drink to your day and start to drink smarter for your metabolism.

The drink I want you to start drinking everyday is green tea.

Green tea will do three distinct things for your health and your weight.

  2. Drinking green tea helps support the transition of your metabolism from burning sugar, sugar, sugar, to burning fat, fat, fat.
  3. Drinking green tea will even help support your immune system which in these times, with cold & flu, COVID and winter all here at the same time, is a super good idea.

Here’s what I want you to do to get all those amazing metabolic and health benefits from green tea.  

I want you to drink a cup of green tea everyday between breakfast and lunch.  

This is going to be your bridge.  It bridges breakfast and lunch so you don’t feel hungry and want to snack.

We are trying to clean things up, food-wise, and we are trying to incorporate a new healthy habit into your life so that you can start eating smarter and burn fat.

Start with a cup of green tea between breakfast and lunch... then I want you to see if you can also drink a cup between lunch and dinner. (Maybe decaf green tea in the afternoon to protect your sleep.)

Drinking one to two cups of green tea everyday is a smart move.  Drinking tea instead of snacking is a nutritional ninja move that I teach my clients in the Freese Method to help break our metabolically damaging snacking habit.

If we're going to drink two cups per day, let's make sure it tastes amazing.  

Green tea needs a little love and attention to bring out it's best flavors.

It's important to make it correctly!

Do not make it like black tea or coffee.

The hot water you use should not be boiling, that’s too hot.  Let it come to a boil and then turn off the heat for three minutes and then use that water. 

Water that is too hot makes the tea grassy-tasting.

Only steep your green tea for three to five minutes. Do not just leave your bag in there forever. This releases a bunch of tannins which makes the tea bitter.  Plus, it can give you a big tummy ache.  All the good stuff is out of that tea bag within three minutes.

When I order a green tea from Starbucks I assume it’s been sitting for at least two minutes. I take a look at my watch or dash board and take that bag out within a minute of getting it.

Commonly asked questions about drinking green tea:

Can I drink both cups at once? Yes.  No biggie.

Can I drink the tea cold? Yes, hot or cold.

Can I drink it out of a bottle? Yes, as long as it doesn’t contain sweeteners.

Does it have to be caffeinated? No, it can be decaf.

Can I sweeten it? No, you cannot, we want it plain.

Do I have to brew it at home? No, you can order it from coffee shops or restaurants, still counts.

Can I just take a green tea supplement or extract? No, you cannot.  The research shows the benefits of green tea are most associated with drinking the tea.

I hate green tea, can I drink black or herbal?  Yes, as a snack substitute it’ll be fine, as a fat burner, no, they are not as good, they will support your immune system, but in a different way.  Green tea is the tea I recommend over black and herbal.

What about matcha? Can I have that? Yes, it’s great too.  Matcha is just drinking the whole ground leaf, instead of taking the leaves out.  It’s very good.
