The 4 Things We DON'T Do In The Freese Method

Today we are talking about the 4 Things We Don’t in the Freese Method.

Next week, we’ll talk about the four things we absolutely Do in the Freese Method.

But this week, I’m going to give you a sneak peek of four things I guide my women to do differently in the Freese Method and we are happy and better for it.

Let’s dive in.

1. We Don’t Do Food Diaries.

That’s right, we do not write down everything we eat. We do not write down how much we ate. We do not write down anything.

Constantly writing down everything is a system developed by low-calorie diet proponents to force women into submission by fear of being graded. Like a book report in 5th grade.

Like a test.

I believe it creates an unhealthy relationship with food as something we need to be controlling with the tightest grip possible.

But mainly, the real reason we don’t do it is because it’s oppressive. It’s burdensome. It’s annoying to have to do. It’s tedious.

I’ve done this a million times. I’ve read a million food diaries. And yes, they do have their place in certain scenarios, but I only ever want to use them as a last resort tool. Not a foundational tool.

When I developed the Freese Method, I was determined not to train my women to have to grade themselves each day with oppressive food diaries and developed a plan that creates great results with or without you ever writing down anything.

Now there are a few exceptions to this. If we are working together to find a trigger food for your heartburn, your IBS, your allergy, or something like that where we are going to another level of health and nutrition during the 12-weeks and it’s a special case, then yes, maybe. But even then, I mostly just have you take pictures of your meals, not written documentation.

Food diaries are more work than they are worth. We need to easily learn to eat the right foods in amounts that make us full. Not just proper portion sizes. The Freese Method does not have you do food diaries because it’s a healthy eating pattern. Not diet hoops to jump through.

2. We Don’t Count Calories or Macro’s!

The reason you do a food diary is to help count up all your calories for the day and assess them up against your calorie deficit goal (which will no doubt be 500 calories per day based on your poorly estimated calorie needs.)

Then you can starve yourself at the end of the day or week because you are not going to make your goal…

That sounds awful.

Food isn’t just numbers.

Losing weight is not just a math equation.

Burning fat cannot be reduced to simply creating a calorie deficit.

There is more to it. There are hormones involved. There are cells and their health involved.

Counting calories is an obsolete practice based on an outdated science and weight loss theories.

Now, we can use calories to help explain concepts on energy use. Absolutely. We can talk about fat grams, protein grams to help drive a point and make our goals more clear, especially because that is the language we all speak by now. But we don’t need to eat that way.

We don’t need to count calories as a way to eat for the long term.

Food is more than math.

It’s nourishment, joy, connection, tradition, & pleasure.

And that’s all ok!

I developed the Freese Method to work without counting calories because that’s a twisted long term relationship with food that perpetuates a decaying mindset on weight management.

3. We Don’t Use Supplements, Protein Powders, Medications, or Pre-Packaged Food.

That’s right, once you have paid the registration fee of the program, I sell you nothing to make it work. There are no expensive and proprietary supplements that you have to buy to make this work.

You will learn to repair your metabolism, lose weight and keep it off, just using regular food that you can buy at the grocery store.

And not even a fancy grocery store. It doesn’t have to be Whole Foods. I live in a small town. We have two grocery stores. A Safeway and a Kroger. And it’s enough.

Real health doesn’t come in a bottle. The Freese Method repairs past damage and restores balance and that balance can be maintained naturally without crutches.

Without gimmicks. You were made to have a healthy metabolism. It’s sitting there waiting to be uncovered.

I developed the Freese Method to be free and clean of any dependence on a guru, a company, or a brand.

This may be a terrible business decision on my part. But it’s a core value I have and I’m proud of it.

4. We Don’t Make Food Our God.

Nutrition and eating practices have never been more public and separatist than they are now.

The diet landscape is split into factions based based on their little eating bible and they elevate the role of their diet to a much higher level in their life than is necessary.

When I say make food your god, I mean you worship food. I mean you put your food preferences and rules above people. Above respecting other. Above just being polite.

If someone invites you over to their house and you send them a laundry list of items you don’t eat, that is putting your dietary restrictions over the real reason we eat together which is to foster relationship with one another.

Food is not the end-all everyone.

Food is not the hill you want to die on.

If you have a food allergy or sensitivity, fine, let them know you don’t eat gluten. That’s ok.

But do not walk into your daughter-in-law's house and rattle off all the things you don’t eat because you are so enlightened now.

Your health is important. It is a priority.

But it is not our God.

I developed the Freese Method to produce the most amazing health and metabolic flexibility that we can be gracious and accommodating in the world. Not so that we can stand out with all our weird food jags.

In the Freese Method, we have a wonderful way to accept the banana bread without being a hag about it. To enjoy your sister’s peach pie without telling her how sinful it is.

We move through the world easily and lovingly in good health without putting your plant-based/carnivore stake in the ground and sacrificing our lives to our "diets."

Some of you will understand this more than others. I’ve experienced this for over 25 years now and it’s doing more harm than the good we all want to believe in so desperately.

The overarching goal of all of this is to create a healthy, sustainable relationship with food that delivers glowing health and provides control over your weight.

The goal is food freedom.

The goal is good labs and less medication.

The goal is energy for life.

The goal is a good life.

And food diaries, counting calories, supplements and pricey gimmicks, and worshiping food do not make up the foundation of a good life filled with good food.

Some of you may be skeptical that it can be done without those elements and I tell you without a moment of hesitation that it can.

We do it everyday inside the Freese Method. On repeat. Consistently.

If you are ready to stop counting calories or tracking macros in your phone or food diary; or being beholden to a pricey monthly supplement or protein powder subscription; or feeling like your identity is now just about how you don’t eat lectins or night-shade vegetables, we should talk.

Remember, you absolutely have what it takes to lose weight, you just need to repair your metabolism first!
